VOL. 61  /  GRACE

This week, we’ve lined up one opportunity to give thanks and two ways to spend time with family (or take a break from them).

Next week, we’ve got all of your holiday shopping covered. BUT if you’re really itching to start shopping now, check out our little Black Friday deal below.

Thank you for being a member!

Christmas Store

in Church Hill

Every year, the Church Hill Wellness Center opens its “Christmas Store” as a charitable shop for kids. For just $5, parents can take home toys and clothing for their children as Christmas gifts. The money collected from the store is then used as a neighborhood fuel assistance fund for the winter months.

You can support the center by donating warm winter clothing and new children’s games and toys to be offered in the Christmas Store. Gifts for children, ages newborn to 12 years old, are all appreciated. They are currently in great need of toys for 7-10-year-old children.

Miracle

On Cary

The Jasper is rocking its best holiday garb for the season. The cocktail bar will transform into Miracle on Cary Street to offer seasonally-themed cocktails such as the Snowball Old Fashioned and And A Partridge In A Pear Tree. Surely there are a few jokes here about holiday spirits.

Originally a New York City holiday pop-up bar, Miracle is launching more than 50 locations across the country for the 2018 season - we’re obviously most excited for The Jasper’s take!

Sounds like the perfect shopping break to us. See you there!

Taste

On Grove

We were sorry to lose the Westhampton Theater at Libbie and Grove two years ago, but we've been pleasantly surprised by the new development.

Case in point: the opening of Taste. If you've ever been to their locations in Eastern Virginia, then you know. If you've never visited this sandwich shop and market, then this holiday weekend might be the right time for a first visit.

Snag some last-minute Thanksgiving host gifts, and then sit down in the café for one of their signature sandwiches like the Boardwalk or Freemason. We’ve also got our eyes on the Fall special Crab Cake sandwich and the Fall Farmstand salad. Just wait until you try the house dressing...

The changing of the leaves and the arrival of colder weather have triggered in us an early anticipation for the holidays. Or maybe it's that we've been busy plotting a MAJOR holiday shopping party for you!! Initial details are below... (or just click here if you don't want to scroll that far).

Until then, these happenings are sure to spark some fun!

Painting

the City

If you don't know Mickael Broth, aka The Night Owl, you definitely know his work. His murals are woven into Richmond's canvas, from his “Greetings from Richmond” postcard collab with Sure Hand Signs outside Charm School Social Club to his "Bernie Slamders," "Ashen Lady of the James," The Diamond, or even the interiors at Triple Crossing.

Now, he's publishing Murals of Richmond, a hardcover coffee table book documenting our city’s explosion of public art. Order a book now, or better yet, join Broth at ZZQ for his book-release party this Sunday!

While you’re feeling artsy, swing by the Virginia Museum of History & Culture for its “Fresh Paint” exhibit, featuring murals inspired by the history of Virginia.

Say

Bingo

Named for the former bingo hall formerly occupied its space, Bingo Beer Co, an all-in-one arcade, brewery and restaurant, just opened its doors in Scott’s Addition. The restaurant minds behind Comfort, Pasture, Flora and Saison created the ultimate entertainment space for classic multiplayer arcade games and other favs like air hockey and pool.

But with that kind of chef power, they didn't forget to deliver on the food. Expect southern-influenced dishes and small plates. Floating servers allow you to move freely around the bar, gaming section and outdoor area so you can game and eat with ease. Full service.

Who’s up for some friendly competition?

VOL. 59  /  DISH

Last week, we were in denial that it's already November, and now we're ready to be present and enjoy the start of the holidays. We're sharing a couple of fun happenings that will get your gift gears turning, as well as a sweet tip to start your Thanksgiving planning.

Get out there!

Hands On

Indigo

Local artisan and blogger Miranda Anderson hosts her Shibori Indigo dyeing classes in Salt Lake City, Portland and Chicago - but we get them first! We’ve been eyeing her events for a while now, so here’s the dish with her workshop this month.

The two-hour class will allow you to bring two one-of-a-kind towels home, all while learning the magic behind textile art. You will experience the whole process of preparing, folding and dyeing natural fabric to create Shibori patterns.

Maybe the perfect opportunity to start your holiday gifting?

Futures: For

The Holidays

Next weekend, the 54th annual Craft & Design show pulls into Main Street Station. Get a solid head start on gift giving with the ability to browse 150+ vendors at once.

So, where to start? First, Church Hill boutique Dear Neighbor has curated 10 killer brands to appear in its own Dear Maker booth. That's a must. Next, vendors and artists are coming from all over the country, but we’ve got our eyes on the Virginia makers, including Grant Garmezy Glass (so unexpected), Shira Brooks Studio JewelryDaniel Rickey Furniture and Chamblin Design (fine jewelry).

Up the ante with food and drink at the Friday night preview party, as well as Saturday and Sunday breakfasts.

The Pie

This year, Thanksgiving is happening on the earliest date possible. Are you ready? We're definitely not. One step to make Thanksgiving meal planning a little easier - and a little tastier: order a pie from a local baker! Check out our favs.

Whisk / That sexy pie pictured above is a Sweet Potato Buttermilk Tart. Wait 'til you see the rest of their menu.

Chairlift at Someday / This Friday, pop by Someday, the new Broad St. home store, to order a pie from Chairlift and buy the platter you'll serve it on, for that homemade touch...

Proper Pie Co. / Online ordering is already open for everything from a classic Apple to a Hazelnut Tan slice.

Better move fast - we had intended to include Pie Y'All on this list, but they've already sold out! (They're still worth checking out.)
