Easter On

Parade

The Easter On Parade is one of those classic Richmond moments. Where else can you get the experience of watching thousands dressed up in their Sunday best, topped with extravagant, rather nutso bonnets stroll down a beautiful tree-lined street?

The once-a-year chance to walk down Monument Ave. is already a big draw. But the people-watching is the main attraction - and who are we kidding, the puppy petting too.

There will be games, crafts, food, music, art, street performers and more. Stick around for the Pet and People Bonnet Showcases at 3 and 4pm!

A Million

Blooms

It's finally time to be outside again. The mere thought makes us want to run singing through a field of flowers. Or you could just go to Lewis Ginter’s annual celebration of spring, A Million Blooms, beginning this weekend. Warmer temps + millions of flowers = your much needed dose of spring.

Go now to see hyacinths, crocuses, daffodils and flowering cherries. As this is a months-long event, return later in May for peonies, iris, azaleas and pitcher plants. Regardless, you’ll have ample Instagram opportunities. Or, you know, peaceful moments for your soul.

#saladeveryday

Love

I’m all about embracing healthy habits and one habit I follow and strongly encourage is replacing one meal a day with a hearty, meal-sized salad. Although I love whipping up salads at home, there are a ton of awesome spots in our city to grab a big bowl of green goodness.

My go-tos include the chopped salad with chickpeas and housemade giardiniera at Union Market and the Mediterranean salad with salmon at The Daily Kitchen and Bar. I love this one so much I actually came up with a copycat recipe.

Superfood

Ice Cream

Because I’m all about balance, I love ice cream almost as much as I love salads, and really want to channel warmer weather, let’s talk ice cream. I’m currently hooked on North End Market in the Museum District. Perhaps you’ve had juice from North End Juice, but the market right next door now has superfood ice cream that’s plain magical.

I highly recommend the bulletproof adaptogenic gelato made in collaboration with Rostov's Coffee and Boketto Wellness; the golden milk; or the super green superfood mango loaded with wheatgrass, spirulina, chlorella, goji berries, moringa, spinach and ripe, fresh mango.

Run Now,

Wine Later

Looking for some extra motivation to get outside and run this spring? Sign up for a race!

The Uncorked Half & 5K is on my radar! New Kent Winery serves as the perfect backdrop for a race focused on pacing AND pampering. As soon as you cross the finish line, the lesson in luxury begins! Treat yourself to a post-race massage, yoga, a deluxe brunch package, and, of course, a glass (or two) of wine -- hey, you’ve earned it!

Pre-Show

Happy Hour

You’re invited to our next Here.Happening!

If you scored tickets to either of the sold-out Tiffany Haddish comedy shows tomorrow (as we recommended in December), congrats! Join us for a pre-show happy hour at Pop’s Market on Grace.

You may know Pop’s for their homemade English muffins (try immediately if you haven't), but their evening fare is just as delightful. Come for dinner or drinks -- whatever you decide, the Carpenter Theatre’s just a block away.

Even if you’re not headed to the show, come out anyway! You’ll have time to eat the dessert the show-goers have to skip and to hang with Patti Wright, who just won an Elby for best front-of-house personality.

French Film...

The largest French Film Festival in the country is Richmond’s very own, taking over The Byrd each spring. Prepare by watching the film trailers and decide if you want to pick up a pass or individual tickets.

This year’s line-up is solid. If we had to choose, our film selects would be:

- “La Danseuse” is perhaps the most anticipated of the lot.

- The trailer alone for “Monsieur & Madame Adelman” is riveting. Color us intrigued.

- If you're into bonkers, we've seen “Rock’n Roll” (because Marion Cotillard), and it's… well... it's totally nuts.

Bonus: the festival brings in directors, producers and actors for Q&A sessions after some of the films.

... & French

Food

If you’re going to watch a French film, you’ll need to eat some French food. There are the standards in town, but we favor L’Opossum for their attentive service and unabashed creativity from dish to decor. Even the menu is a trip.

Our perfect meal starts with the French meeting the South in Les Escargots à La Ham Biscuit. Next: The Swank Bank, aka lobster mac & cheese in a “ridiculously rich” white truffle mornay sauce. Hungry yet? Save room for dessert – The Swashbuckling Bundt Pirate Drenched in Hot Buttered Rum is not to be missed.
