Tre. Charles
Currently EP Release
Tonight, we’re super excited to host the Tre. Charles / Currently. EP release, an intimate listening party at our 1623 West Broad Street workshop. Tre. Charles will be performing a stripped back set, revealing the stories that inspired the songs/project, and previewing some unreleased tracks. Doors open at 6:30 at Shockoe Atelier and the show starts at 7:00. Tickets are free, but limited. Hope to see you all there!
My family and I have lived in Northside for 13 years; Porchella is one of the highlights! Created during the height of the pandemic in 2020 as a way for neighbors to safely reconnect and listen to music, Porchella brings the music to the people. It's a "live music walk" around the Bellevue neighborhood where you can catch music on every corner. The real move is to stop by Once Upon a Vine (AKA Bob’s), grab a 6-pack, and enjoy the 30+ porch shows from 12:30 pm - 6:00 pm.
One of my favorite corners in Richmond is a small strip on Jefferson ave in Union Hill. There’s a great park, and Richmond staples like Union Market and Sub Rosa Bakery. This Sunday, a several businesses are hosting a block party from noon to 5 pm. You’ll find me shopping the Freak Flags pop-up at Dear Neighbor, vintage finds from the Annual Spring Market at Pizza Bones, and topping it off with an amazing bowl of Ramen from the newly opened Slurp! Ramen. Definitely worth a visit.

First on the list is something that we are very passionate about, and that's salsa dancing! Did you know that there are dancing events nearly every day of the week in Richmond? We absolutely love it, and when we have the time, you'll find us at any one of these events. Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k
Next up is the Ukrops Monument Avenue 10k, an event that Sophia has participated in a few times in the past. These days, we really enjoy cheering on the runners instead! We'll be at mile marker 3 this year, bringing ALL the cheer and noise. It's a great way to have a good time, support the community, and hang out with friends. Plus, the Massey Challenge will be happening at the same time, which is an important cause for us. As the official charitable partner of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, the Massey Challenge helps work toward a cancer-free future. Runners can dedicate their miles to Massey by supporting the lifesaving cancer research that’s being done right here in RVA.
Finally, we're excited about the opening of The Veil's new taproom and their seven year anniversary block party this weekend! We love The Veil Brewing Co. and we're especially excited about their new in-house restaurant, Nokoribi, featuring a Japanese pub-inspired menu. Plus, during their block party there will be live music and a great atmosphere – what's not to love? The party will include performances from multiple Richmond bands, an indoor menu from Nokoribi, food trucks outside, such as High Roller Lobster Co., Smashed RVA, Young Mother, Gelati Celesti and, of course, beer. West Moore Street will be closed to traffic for the occasion. Noon to midnight at 1509 Belleville St. Free entry, pay as you go.

We're back from a brief hiatus and coming at you this week with three tips from guest editor Keya Wingfield designed to help you celebrate and explore this place we love to call home.
Equal parts chef, entrepreneur, instructor, and mother, Chef Keya is as dynamic as the food she creates. While her formal culinary education took place in RVA, her love and passion for food began in her hometown of Bombay, India. The reigning champion of Food Network’s “Spring Baking Championship,” Keya not only enjoys baking, but is also involved in other ventures, such as recipe development, as well as her own brand of potato chips, aptly named “Bombay Chips.” Owning her own business for almost fifteen years has given Keya a unique perspective on how food can bring people, and cultures, together. A common thread throughout everything she does is adapting the roots of her rich heritage to the world at large. While thousands have enjoyed Keya’s food, her biggest challenge to date is getting her three-year old to eat something other than Mac and Cheese.

Tasting at Point 5
Point 5 is our city’s first stand-alone alcohol free bottle shop. They have everything you can possibly need to stock your nonalcoholic bar. I personally love nonalcoholic beverages and the options at Point 5 are phenomenal. You’ll be able to sample from Crescent Simples and Dhos Spirits at the Temptation Free Tasting Event on April 15th form 12 pm to 4 pm. I can vouch for Crescent Simples, they carry a line of simple syrups made with fresh fruit, herbs, raw sugar and no preservatives. I’m excited to get to know more about Dhos Spirits, they hand craft zero sugar, 0 to 5 calories, certified pesticide and alcohol free spirits.

Welcome Spring
Garden Party
Pinky’s is one of those restaurants built with heart and love and I’m always up for supporting their events, like the Welcome Spring Garden Party on April 17th from 5 pm to 8 pm. This one in particular caught my eye because of its mission, which is to benefit Birth In Color RVA. There will be cocktails, vendors like our beloved Belle Isle Moonshine and fluffy clouds of marshmallows and desserts by Karmalitas, music by DJ Ant Boogie, and food of course to ring in spring patio season. If there is one thing we love in our city, its patio season, a crisp cool cocktail and a sundress. I’ll see you there!

Elephant & Piggie
at Virginia Rep
In talking about events around town, I can’t leave out the little ones. I’ll be taking my 4 year old to this adorable vaudevillian romp called Elephant & Piggie by Virginia Rep's Children's Entertainment & Education. Written by Mo Willems, Elephant & Piggie is the perfect way to introduce young ones to the joy of putting on a play. An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie solve problems, sing, make each other laugh and even teach the audience a dance known as the Flippy Floppy Floory. It’s too adorable to miss! Best for ages 3 to 7.
